| What is wig or hair system bonding tape (aka: double sided
''wig' or toupee tape')? |
|
There is basically just one kind
of wig or hair system bonding tape; double sided 'wig' or 'toupee'
tape. However, there are several different types available in
various compositions that will allow you to secure your wig or
hair system for various bonding periods ranging from 1 day to
6 weeks.
Double sided 'wig' and 'toupee
tape' is formulated to
secure a wig or hair system to skin for up to 6 weeks, however,
how long the bond stays secured to skin is different for each
individual. The type of tape used also determines how long a
wig or hair system will stay secured. You have the option to
secure your wig or hair system for 1 day or for up to 6 weeks,
the choice is up to each individual. All you must do is choose
the proper bonding tape that will provide you with your desired
bonding period.
Daily wear tape will provide you with 1 - 10 day bonding periods.
Extended wear tape will provide you with 3 to 6 week bonding periods.
PLEASE NOTE:
Should you choose 'extended wear bonding tape' to secure your
wig or hair system, you still have the option to remove your
wig or hair system sooner, if desired.

| How do I know if I am allergic to a wig bonding
tape? |
|
Testing yourself, to see if you
are allergic to a wig bonding adhesive, is easy and recommended,
especially when you have sensitive skin.
To Test Yourself:
.
Simply apply a small piece of the tape you wish to test to the
underside of your arm bicep muscle area.
. After
1 or more days, check to see if you have reacted negatively to
the tape.
. Tape
or tape residue may easily be removed from your bicep using adhesive
remover solvent:
OptiSol Solvent

 |
|
. Solvent
is also recommended to be used when removing a wig or hair system.

|
| How long does extended wear wig bonding tape
stay secured to skin? |
|
Daily and extended wear bonding
tapes are formulated to secure a wig or hair system to skin for
1 day to 6 weeks. However, how long a wig or hair system will
actually stay secured depends upon each persons body chemistry,
lifestyle, and using the proper wig or hair system bonding procedure.
Body Chemistry
Each person has their own personal body chemistry. The body chemistry
we are referring to is the amount of sweat your body discharges
during normal daily activities. Younger people sweat a more than
older people based upon their daily activities. Sweating is natural
for everyone, however, contained within your sweat are body chemicals
of which include body oils. It is these body oils that determine
how long a wig stays secured to your skin. It is the oils that
penetrate the adhesive on the tape little by little daily until
the adhesive softens and eventually it looses its bonding strength.
Therefore, the more you sweat the shorter the bonding period
can be expected. You don't need to change your body chemistry,
all you need to do is remove your wig and re-bond it again.
Lifestyle
Your lifestyle plays a large part with how long your wig or hair
system will stay secured using bonding tape. Everyone, based
upon their age, has a different lifestyle. Younger people are
more active and enjoy running or working out in the gym, while
older people are less active and usually spend most of their
time relaxing and watching television or knitting. It is inevitable
that younger people are active and that they tend to sweat more
than older less active people.
Proper Tape Bonding Procedure
When securing a wig or hair system to dry or oil skin, it is
recommended to, first clean the bonding area using a 90% or 99%
alcohol. (You should also clean the bonding area on your wig
or hair system using the same alcohol as well.)
Bonding a Wig or Hair System
Using Tape
.
Remove paper shielding from one side of the tape and apply the
tape where and as desired on your wig.
. (Leave paper shielding on second side
of tape.)
. (Paper shielding on
second side of tape can be dog-eared for easier removal.)
.
Position the wig or hair system on your head for wearing.
.
Starting at the front hairline; fold the front hairline section
of your wig of hair system back to expose
. where tape has been applied.
.
Remove the second piece of paper shielding.
.
Fold that section back down and press firmly to secure wig or
hair system in place.
. (If you are doing full perimeter bonding;
work each area using the same procedure until your wig or hair
. system is securely bonded in place.)

If any adhesive is visible at front hairline, remove excess adhesive
using solvent or alcohol. Proper Wig or Hair System
Removal
There is a right way and a wrong way to remove a wig or hair
system.
We recommend using the following
method:
.
Spray some solvent (on the hair side) along or behind the area(s)
where the wig or hair system has been
. secured.
.
Wait several minutes (up to 3 minutes), and then, carefully (using
your thumb nail) start lifting the
. front hairline edge of your wig or hair
system.
Never pull on
the hair to remove your wig or hair system!

|
| How should a wig or hair system be prepared for
tape or adhesive bonding? |
|
Most factory made wigs and hair
systems are made using French or Swiss Lace wig caps. French
and Swiss Lace Material is a matrix of small holes, similar to
window screen. To make the intended wig or hair system, hair
is tied to the matrix material. What most manufacturer's ignore
during the wig making process is preparing a bonding area, so
tape or adhesive does not destroy the wig or hair system from
regular bonding, removal, and cleaning procedures.
When tape or adhesive is applied
to an unprepared (no bonding area) wig or hair system for securing
it for wearing, it is applied directly to the underside of the
wig or hair system where the hair has been tied from the top
side to the matrix material. This method of securing the wig
for wearing is common, however, it does not protect a wig or
hair system from continued removal of from damaging the hair
when cleaning away the tape or adhesive.
It is the continued cleaning
away of the tape or adhesive that eventually thins the hair,
tied to the wig cap, until it breaks and releases from the wig
or hair system. When this happens, you must replace the lost
hair or buy another wig or hair system. Naturally, this can be
very expensive, however, you can easily eliminate this problem
by creating your own bonding area(s) on your wig or hair system.
Here is what you can do to eliminate
this problem:
Before you secure your wig or
hair system for wearing, you should undercoat the bonding areas
of your wig or hair system with a polyurethane coating to protect
the hair and provide a better bonding surface. We recommend using
our Easy TAB 'undercoating' Compound.

| Why does my wig or hair system come loose before
it should? |
|
When using extended wear wig
or hair system bonding adhesive to secure a wig for weeks at
a time requires that you do not remove your wig or hair system
each night before going to bed. Naturally, while sleeping it
is common for people to toss and turn. It is the tossing and
turning that causes a wig or hair system to pull loose because
of the stress to the bonded areas while moving around in your
sleep.
To help eliminate this problem,
it is recommended that you ware a nylon or cotton sleeping cap.

| Why does my scalp itch when you wear a wig or
hair system? |
|
Not everyone suffers from an
itchy scalp, however, most of the people who wear a wig or hair
system can experience an itchy scalp from time to time. What
causes their scalp to itch from time to time may be caused from
various disorders. However, for those who wear a wig or hair
system it is usually caused from bacteria buildup. Naturally,
sweat is the main culprit, the more you sweat the faster bacteria
accumulates on your scalp, and the more bacteria the more your
scalp itches. The cure is easy, simply shampoo your wig or hair
system with a quality medicated shampoo.
Don't worry, medicated shampoo
is formulated to treat scalp conditions and it is also formulated
to clean hair too. We recommend using Denorex Medicated Shampoo.
