Stop Hair Color
Fading On Men's Hairpieces and Women's Lace Front Wigs
Almost all Hairpieces
and Lace Front Wigs are made with virgin hair or dyed human
hair. And, as we all know and have experienced with either virgin
hair or dyed hair, is that it does fade over time. Here are
several things that may be helpful to extend the life of the
hair-color or highlights of the hair in your Hairpiece or Lace
Front Wig.
PLEASE NOTE
: The reddish
hues in brown human hair do fade faster than the darker hair-colors.
Use following
tips for maintaining hair color on Hairpieces or Lace Front
Wigs:
1.
After shampooing your hair piece or wig it is best to wait 24-48
hours before applying hair color or dye. The buildup of
natural hair oils helps the color or dye to take better for
deeper, longer lasting hue application.
2.
After applying hair color or dye to the hair it is best to wait
48 hours or longer before resuming normal shampooing of your
Hairpiece or Lace Front Wig.
3.
Do not shampoo
hair that has been colored or highlighted using hot water.
Using cool water is recommended for shampooing any type of human
hair or synthetic Hairpiece or lace wig. Using cold water to
rinse your Hairpiece or lace wig is recommended to close the
hair cuticle after shampooing.
4.
Using a gentle
shampoo with a pH factor of 5 is recommended with all human
hair Hairpieces and wigs. Using a leave-in conditioner is also
recommended. Using styling products that are specifically designed
for color-treated hair is also recommended. Consider using
popular shampoo and conditioner brands, such as Aveda, Paul
Mitchell, and Mine.
5.
Shampoo your Hairpiece or Lace Front Wig on a regular basis,
but only as often as really necessary. Keep in mind that each
time a Hairpiece or Lace Front Wig is shampooed, that the hair
color fades slightly until it does not match with your own hair
color. When this happens you should consider coloring or dying
your Hairpiece or Lace Front Wig again.
6.
Using of hot styling tools (blow dryers, hot irons or curlers)
is not recommended. Heat will damage new colored synthetic and
human hair. It is recommended to let newly colored or dyed Hairpiece
or Lace Front Wig to air dry at room temperature, if possible,
for longer lasting and best results.
7.
If you use a blow dryer, it is recommended to use a heat protecting
leave-in conditioner or protecter product or to use a cooler
air setting.
8.
To avoid striping or fading the hair color using intense volumizing,
clarifying and oil reducing shampoos should not be used. They
may inadvertently strip or fade the hair color of your Hairpiece
or lace wig.
9.
Hot oil treatments that have highly acidic ingredients like
extra virgin olive oil may also strip hair color.
10.
Conditioning the hair on your Hairpiece or Lace Front Wig with
products designed specifically to help maintain and strengthen
color treated hair is recommended at least once a week.
11.
Chemical treatments like perms or hair straightens may also
damage or cause hair to become weakened, brittle, and unnatural
appearing.
12.
Salt water and chlorinated pool water will quickly fade or leech
out color from human hair. They may even change the hair color
to shades of green, pink or other unnatural color hues.
Should you choose
to swim while wearing your hair piece or wig and cannot wear
a bathing cap, it is recommended to rinse hair immediately before
and after entering the water with distilled water. Shampooing
a Hairpiece or Lace Front Wig, as soon as possible after swimming,
is also recommended to remove any lingering chemicals that may
leech out color while damp.
13.
Wearing a hat, cap, or scarf to cover the hair on your Hairpiece
or lace wig while in direct sunlight is highly recommended.
14.
Adding fresh new hair to your Hairpiece or Lace Front Wig occasionally
is the easy way to keep it looking natural much longer.
