Not all cosmetic surgery and hair transplant surgery results are successful! As we have all seen on TV -- often cosmetic surgery and hair transplant surgery results are not always satisfactory. The only recourse you have is to file a lawsuit against the doctor for any damages and then fight for years in court for satisfaction, but that is of course -- if you win your lawsuit! Usually the outcome is the lawyer is the only one who really ends up the winner from lawsuits of this nature.

Be sure to ask the doctor's for names of patients and for the name of his insurance company.

Should the doctor decline from giving you any valid names - find another doctor who will provide you with this information.

Call the referred patients and his Insurance Company and ask the patients about their surgery results and be sure to call and ask the Insurance Company if anyone has filed a claim against the doctors insurance policy.

Call the Better Business Bureau to investigate the doctor's validity.

This type of surgery can be very perilous and sometimes even seriously unsatisfactory - do your home work before committing to surgery!!!

Before you Spend your Money on a Wig or Hairpiece...

Avodart / Dutasteride

Long awaited approval of the newest treatment expected by many to outperform Propecia, Dutasteride has been approved for availability here in the United States under the brand name Avodart.

Unfortunately, Avodart is not indicated for treatment of hair loss, even though its active ingredient, Dutasteride, has performed quite well in hair loss trials. Our contact at Glaxo made it very clear that this Avodart is a drug for the treatment of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia), the same condition that Propecia's forerunner, Proscar, was approved for.

That didn't stop people from getting their hands on Proscar though, and its clear that many aren't going to wait for an Alopecia approved version of Dutasteride either. Even today many hair loss sufferers (men only) seek to reduce their monthly expenditures by acquiring a prescription for Proscar 5mg and splitting the tablets into 5ths to obtain the 1mg dosage at 1/5th the cost. Avodart's tablet doesn't look very amicable to splitting, but that is an issue sure to be tackled in December by many of our users.

Prescribing medications for off label purposes isn't widely accepted in the medical community, even though drugs like Finasteride are considered a well tolerated and safe. As a result, very few, if any physicians are going to be willing to write an Rx for younger patients seeking to stop their hair loss with Avodart.

It appears that many more hair loss sufferers are turning to Avodart first before Propecia as their potential cure for hair loss.

Though Avodart is said to be potentially a more potent hair loss drug, although it is not FDA approved for hair loss.  Avodart inhibits both type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase enzymes minimizing the production of DHT more than Propecia.  But with a more potentially potent drug comes the potential of more potent side effects.

It would be better to try Propecia first because it has been FDA approved as a hair loss medication. Many balding patients have great success with Propecia especially when combined with Rogaine.  Many hair restoration physicians recommend Avodart as an alternate hair loss treatment in the event that Propecia does not work after using for 12 months.

Be sure however, to discuss these hair restoration treatments with a physician beforehand to learn fully about the benefits and potential side effects.
